Laser Vision Correction - How Does It Work PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Laser Vision Correction reshapes the anterior surface of the cornea. In cases of myopia, the anterior surface is reshaped by the excimer laser and becomes "flatter."
Unlike PRK, a corneal flap is created before laser application. After the laser has been applied, the flap is repositioned. The procedure takes about 15 minutes. Healing is faster than previous forms of laser surgery and results are more stable.
The flap is elevated and the laser is applied to the underlying tissue. This is the most crucial step of the procedure.
After the cornea is reshaped, the flap is replaced. This explains why patients often see better immediately after the procedure and why there is so little discomfort.
