OMNI Eye Specialists Among First To Offer New Multifocal IOLs To Patients

Baltimore, Maryland – OMNI Eye Specialists is proud to be one of only two ophthalmology practices in the Baltimore area, and among the first in the country to offer a newly FDA-approved intraocular lens (IOL) for cataract patients.  The lens is designed to provide patients high-quality near and distance vision in a range of light conditions.

The new lens unique design gives patients superior near vision and reading speed compared to other presbyopia-correcting IOLs, as well as exceptionally high spectacle independence, with nearly 9 out of 10 patients reporting that they never wear glasses after surgery.

Dulaney Eye Institute will be the first specialized eye surgical center in the Baltimore area to use this new lens.  In an exclusive arrangement, Ivan H. Garcia, M.D. is proud to be one of the few hand-selected surgeons in the Baltimore area to offer this new technology.  “This is an exciting opportunity for patients and physicians,” says Dr. Garcia.  “We now have another lens option that may provide high-quality distance and near vision for our cataract patients, and quite possibly reduce or eliminate their need for glasses,” he says.

Other features and benefits of the lens include:
  • High-quality vision for near, far, and intermediate distances, day or night.
  • First and only pupil-independent, non-apodized fully diffractive aspheric lens designed to correct the two highest order aberrations – spherical and chromatic – to give patients back their youthful vision.
  • 95 percent patient satisfaction – the highest of any presbyopia-correcting IOL.

OMNI Eye Specialists is regarded as one of the premier multi-specialty ophthalmology practices in the Baltimore and Washington, DC areas.  By offering a full portfolio of refractive options, Dr. Garcia continues to achieve excellent patient outcomes.  Dr. Garcia, Medical Director and Founding Member of OMNI Eye Specialists, received his Fellowship training at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, specializing in Cornea and Anterior Segment Surgery.  Dr. Garcia has been named “Top Doc” by Baltimore Magazine.

About Cataracts
A cataract is a “clouding” of the eye’s natural lens, which results in blurred or defocused vision.  According to a recent article published in the Archives of Ophthalmology, more than 20 million adults in the U.S. have developed cataracts making it the number one cause of poor vision in the United States.  According to the National Eye Institute, the number of Americans with cataracts is expected to increase to over 30 million people by the year 2020.
